GAZI – “Ladies and gentlemen, the Victory Ceremony for the 5th FISU World University Match Racing Championship 2010 is starting now” was one of the greatest moments the participants will remember form their presence in the Port of Heraklion, last July 11th from 7pm, prior to the Closing Ceremony.
The medals were awarded by Claude-Louis Gallien, FISU 1st Vice-President, Mr. Roland Galliot, FISU Technical Chair for Sailing and Match Racing and Mrs. Janice Harvey, FISU Medical Committee delegate.
The cups were presented by the Rector of the University, Prof. Ioannis Palikaris, the Representative of the Mayor of Heraklion, Mr.Ioannis Manzapetaki and the President of the Hellenic University Sports Federation, Mr. Michalis Kiritsis.

The closing ceremony followed with speeches from Mr. Gallien, Prof. Ioannis Palikaris, Mr. Ioannis Manzapetaki and Mr.Michalis Kiritsis.
Golden Boy ShawGold medallist Shaw from Great Britain also made a speech dedicated to FISU, the Organising Committee and the very good atmosphere of this Championship. All participants could benefit from exceptional good weather conditions for sailing and were really happy to have participated.
The FISU anthem was played and the FISU flag lowered to be given to the representative of the host country for the next edition of the World University Match Racing Championship, Mr. Louis Beltran.
The 6th World University Match Racing Championship in 2012 will take place in the City of Vallauris, Golfe Juan, France. After having initiated the first edition of this event in 2002, the OC mentioned they are ready to do it again10 years later and will welcome all world university sailors for this event.
