The OC members
GAZI – This morning, July 11th, the finals of the 5th World University Match Racing Championship were sailed, with always very nice weather conditions, around 15 knots. The wind was shifting, but this was very good for the teams to show their strategy and tactics.
For getting the final ranking, the winner had to get 3 points. The first team to get it was Shaw, Great Britain, having made 3-0 against its opponent Griffin, Australia, getting the second place.
The winner, Great Britain, during the whole Championship, had the best competences and was the one to make nearly any mistake in its tactic choices.
In the manoeuvres, the team was really welded, with hoisting very quickly their spinnaker and having a good speed up wind.
At each time, the team of Australia was very near the first team of Great Britain, but apart all their efforts, they could not beat them.
Nevertheless, the English coach, Miann Myant, coming regularly at the WUC, was much more than useful to coach his team.
The third and fourth places were really tight for Whitty, Australia and O’Learly, Ireland.
Lucinda 
Lucinda Whitty from Australia, the helmwoman, was totally well chosen among the other helmspersons.
Her team was composed of 4 girls and 1 guy.
At the end of the day, the CTI meeting was held, gathering all umpires making recommendations for the next edition of the Championship. All umpires were thanked for their very hard work.
Mr. Gallien and Mr. Galliot thanked everybody for the very good event. “We were making a real team, both the FISU CISCA and the Organising Committee”, said Gallien in order to succeed this Championship, with special thanks to Theodoros Katsaounis, Georgios Vitsakis, Stelios Zaxarioudakis, Grigoris Tzanodaslkalakis, Xaria Papadaki and Glykeria Fragkioudaki of the OC.
The awarding and closing ceremonies took place in the historical Venetian site of Heraklion harbour, same place as the opening ceremony and was followed by a dance party for all participants.
