The AUS Team in action at one of the AUS events
BRISBANE – On July 8th, Don Knapp CEO of the National University Sport Federation of Australia (Australia University Sport-AUS) welcomed Kolë Gjeloshaj FISU Director of Educational and Development Services in its Headquarters in Brisbane. Mr. Gjeloshaj is in charge of the relations with the FISU membership.
It was the opportunity to discuss how the co-operation between FISU and AUS can improve particularly in terms of exchanging information, increase visibility of both organizations in their respective media tools and for their events. Don Knapp also explained how the organization works and what the next projects being developed are.
At this time of the year, the students in Australia which university rhythm is based on the year calendar have a break and that is why the AUS is organizing its regional multi-sport championships. The National University Games will take place this year in the end of the month of September in Perth. More than 5,500 students-athletes will participate in 31 sports. For each regional games AUS is sending a member of its staff to ensure to good running of these games and the issuing of the results.
The AUS structure is composed of 41 member-universities and a board of 8 persons elected for a two year period. The Secretariat headed by Don Knapp has its main office in Brisbane with 12 employees and two regional offices with one employee in Sydney and three in Melbourne.
AUS is welcoming this year the FISU Squash championship in Monash University in Melbourne. It is the third time that Australia is organizing a FISU event. AUS also welcomed last week the General Assembly of the Oceania University Sport Association.
