
GAZI – FISU 1st Vice-President Claude-Louis Gallien presided the CISCA meeting on July 5th in the evening, which was attended by the Local Organizing Committee Directors for Sports, Technical Dept., Protocol, and Transportation.
Mr. Gallien insisted on the difficulty in these economical hardship times for Greece speaking, for this Committee in Crete to organize this event and congratulated them for their hard work in trying the best they can do to make this World University Match Racing Championship succeed.
The following matters were raised: the Opening Ceremony program, the cultural and social program for the delegations, the schedule of transportation for the competitors and also for all officials, as well as all medical aspects related to this kind of competition.
All technical matters were also discussed and the sailing instructions were distributed to all competitors directly after accreditation.
Big thanks go to the Organizing Committee for having equipped the boats with totally new sails, having spent a lot of money for increasing the level of this competition.
FISU Technical chair for Match Racing Roland Galliot noticed that the competitors seem all happy with the accommodation and food and are preparing for the long day of July 6th , starting from 8:30 with the accreditation of the remaining countries before leaving for training at the marina, splitting the training into 2 groups according to their registration.
While the athletes will train, there will be a race committee and umpire meeting in the morning.
The General Technical Meeting will also take place at the Marina at 5pm.
After training, all athletes will come back to the hotel and will leave for the Opening Ceremony taking place at 7pm at the Heraklion Port. Official speeches, parade, hymn and dancing will be at the program. The participation of the Municipality has been requested and we will probably have the honor to have the Mayor of Gazi declaring this World University Championship open… Let’s go and see…
