2010 WUC Golf Update: OC Meets in Antequera

The Organising Committee of the World University Golf Championship met in the Hotel Convent La Magdalena in Antequera with a delegation of the Executive Committee in order to assess the arrangements realized so far and to study the planning for the next months.

The following people assisted to the meeting: the mayor of the city, Ricardo Millán; the councillor of Sports, Manuel Chicón; the representative of the Council of Tourism and Sport, Antonio Souvirón; Aitor Canibe, chief of the service of university sports of the High Sports Council; Juan José Gómez-Raggio, general secretary; and Manuel Garballo García, the representative of the child and young competition, and amateur of the Andalusian Golf Federation; the representative of Antequera Golf, Ramón Jiménez; the vice-rector of the University of Málaga, Teresa Prieto; and the director of the Secretariat of Sports of the University of Málaga, Pedro Montiel, who as president of the Executive Committee, was in charge with presenting the management report, as well as the project to the rest of the members of the Organising Committee.

 Within the information about the current situation of the organisation of the Championship, the Executive Committee reported that 17 countries are already registered.

The number of teams participating in the last edition of the Championship held in South Africa was 20. However, for the 13th edition of the World University Golf Championship, which will be held on Antequera, Pedro Montiel is quite certain that the record of participation will be beaten with 22 participating countries.

This is the second meeting for the Organising Committee. The previous meeting on October 21st, the rector of the University of Málaga, Adelaida de la Calle and the mayor of Antequera, Ricardo Millán, signed an agreement of support and collaboration between both institutions for hosting the 13th World University Golf Championship, which will be played between the 7th and the 11th June in the sports venues of the Antequera Golf club.

Prior to FISU event, the University Golf Championship of Spain will be held on the same course, in order to test the organisation of the tournament in June. The University of Málaga has asked this event for to the Spanish Council of University Sports (CEDU) and it has been conceded. The national university tournament has already been played twice in Antequera.
