Steering Committee meets in Colorado Springs

19 January 2010

The members of the FISU Steering Committee met on January 14th and 15th, 2010 and were very well welcomed in Colorado Springs by the Chair of the FISU Legal Committee, William HYBL. The group was made up of President George E. KILLIAN, First Vice-President, Claude-Louis GALLIEN, Vice-Presidents, Stefan BERGH, Hassan CHIKH, Xinsheng ZHANG, Luciano CABRAL, Treasurer Bayasgalan DANZANDORJ, First Assessor, Malumbete RALETHE as well as Secretary General/CEO, Eric SAINTROND.

The meeting focused on the preparation and discussion of important points that will be on the agenda of the next Executive Committee meeting foreseen next May in Shenzhen, China. It is well worth mentioning that our President came back strong and fully recovered from a knee surgery undergone last September as he chaired his first meeting since the 2009 Summer Universiade held last July in Belgrade.

Regarding cultural events, on the evening of the 14th, the group attended a reception which gathered the representatives of the Sports NGBs, members of the USOC and authorities of the city. As most of these federations are based in Colorado Springs, this event revealed to be most interesting in establishing contacts and promoting FISU. An important guest was Scott BLACKMUN, legal adviser to the FISU President, who was recently appointed to the position of USOC Chief Executive Officer.

Then, on the 15th, at the end of the meeting, FISU representatives decided to make the most of their stay and chose to visit the headquarters of the USOC. The Steering Committee members were very pleased with the outcome of the meeting which was fruitful and the different events in which they participated.
