Feevale celebrates its victory
On Saturday, September 26th, the medal games of the men’s tournament of the 2009 Brazilian University Football Games in Vitoria were played. The matches were decided by penalties.
Feevale (Rio Grande do Sul) and UVV (Espírito Santo) played the tournament final. Felipe (number 9 of Feevale) opened the score while and Alexandre (number 15 of UVV) equalized the game. Both teams looked for another scoring opportunity but in vain, so the game was decided by penalties. Feevale’s goalkeeper, Michel, caught one UVV’s kick helping his university team to win the championship for the first time. Michel was a member of Team Brazil at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand. “Our team has grown during the tournament and today I could help my teammates to get this gold medal”, Michel said.
Third place went to FTC (Bahia) that also won the match against Upis (Distrito Federal) in penalties.
Luciano Cabral, FISU Vice-President and President of the Brazilian University Sport Confederation (CBDU) witnessed the finals at Estiva field, in Vitória. “Congratulations to all teams and players, especially those playing the finals, which were high level games”, Mr. Cabral said.
During the six-day tournament (21 to 26 September) some 300 athletes (male and female) played on Vitória’s soccer pitches showing the best of university football in Brazil.
