CIS & Coaches of Canada announce Strategic Partnership

Canadian Interuniversity Sport and Coaches of Canada announced Monday September 14th a strategic partnership between the two organizations for the 2009-2010 CIS season.

“This partnership is a natural,” said CIS Chief Executive Officer, Marg McGregor. “CIS and Coaches of Canada have a shared interest in advancing the profession of coaches, and in promoting, supporting and recognizing excellence in coaches.”

“CIS coaches represent a significant portion of professional coaches in Canada. With over 500 head coaches working in CIS, and several hundred more assistant coaches, this partnership is a wonderful opportunity to promote and expand our services into this talented network of university coaches,” said Wayne Parro, Executive Director of Coaches of Canada. “It also provides an opportunity for CIS coaches to be leaders in the development of coaching as a profession.”

Coaches of Canada is the national organization that represents the profession of coaching in Canada. The organization’s mission is to advance the profession of coaching, as well as the contribution coaches make to individuals, teams, communities and society. Coaches of Canada is a member-driven organization whose members are coaches who represent all sports, both professional and amateur.

As a result of this partnership Coaches of Canada becomes the presenting sponsor of the CIS Coach of the Year awards handed out annually at 19 CIS national championships.

Coaches of Canada will also feature a regular CIS column in Coaches PLAN, their quarterly magazine. The winner of the CIS Jean-Marie de Koninck Coaching Excellence Award, presented at the CIS annual general meeting in June, will also be recognized in Coaches PLAN.
