Today, June 27th, the FISU Executive Committee met for the second consecutive day in Belgrade. During this second session, the FISU Board Members listened to the progress reports of the future Universiade Organizing Committees and the final report of the 2009 Winter Universiade in Harbin, China, as well as the progress reports of a number of hosts of the 2010 World University Championships.
2009 Summer Universiade
Director for the Summer Universiade Marc Vandeplas gave an update of the actual situation of the Belgrade host’s preparation of the Games. Dr. Larry Rink, the Chair of the FISU Medical Committee outlined the rigorous medical preparations taken by the Organizing Committee. He also gave an update of the Influenza H1N1 situation in the world and the precautions taken by the OC. Dr. Rink added that there is a daily information exchange between FISU/Belgrade OC and the WHO. Omar Al Hai, Chair of the CIC, gave an update of the accreditation situation. So far, 1,048 participants from 53 countries are accredited. From the OC side Sports Director Dragan Pesikan and Universiade Village Mayor Ranko Tepavcevic gave a progress report regarding the event.
2009 Winter Universiade
CSU Chair Kairis Ulp gave a final report of the 2009 Winter Universiade which took place in Harbin, China from February 18th to 28th, concluding that the 24th Winter Universiade was a great success, organization wise but also in the sports field as 8 Universiade Records were broken. Roger Roth gave the CTI Report which was very satisfactory as well. A delegation of the Harbin Organizing Committee headed by its Secretary-General Mr. HAN Guangru addressed the FISU EC members with a final report. For the Chinese host this FISU event was also a great success, being the first multi winter sport event ever to be held in China.
2011 Winter Universiade
FISU Winter Universiade Director Milan Augustin gave an update report on the situation in Erzurum, Turkey the host of the 2011 Winter Universiade where the construction of the new venues is well underway. The floor was given to the delegation of the Erzurum OC headed by General Coordinator Yunus Akgül to present its progress report. Since Spring has arrived after a harsh Winter, the construction activity of the venues has restarted. 25% of the indoor facilities have been completed. The construction of ice rinks for figures skating, ice hockey and curling are under way and planned to be finished in October 2010. The OC also rented a 4-storey building as its headquarters. An IT study was carried out as well and the staff has been increased to 250
2011 Summer Universiade
The Shenzhen delegation headed by OC Deputy Secretary-General Huang Guoqiang presented its update report as well. The milestone schedule for the preparatory work is refined. Master Schedule for 2009 has been made in line with the usual practices and progress of the Universiade to ensure the timely fulfillment of each piece of work required. Municipal government departments have made their own plans in support of the Universiade.
The venue construction has proceeded smoothly. All competition and training venues of the Universiade, either newly built or renovated, have been carefully planned, and the construction of related projects has been carried out with satisfaction. So far, 7 of the newly built projects have been largely completed, 4 have moved from the civil engineering work to steel structure construction, 10 have started work on the main structures or foundation treatment, and the repair and modification projects have been in full swing.
The Kazan delegation2013 Summer Universiade
The Kazan delegation headed by Marat Bariev, the Minister of Sport and Youth of the Tatarstan Republic. At the moment several venues are under construction. Preparation of the students’ games goes according to the approved plans. Preparation issues to the Universiade in Kazan are of the same importance as the preparation to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and are controlled directly by the president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. All guarantees that were given by the Government of Russia are fully tendered.
After the coffee break Anthony Collings, Chair of the Regulations Committee, gave an overview of the adaptations for the regulations. They were accepted unanimously by the EC members.
2010 WUC
WUC CT Chair Sinisa Yasnic and WUC Director Laurent Briel gave a general update of the 2010 WUC. A number of World University Championship hosts for 2010 gave a progress report, i.e. cross country (Canada), floorball & orienteering (Sweden), Triathlon & Golf (Spain), Rugby 7 (Portugal), Karate (Montenegro) and Handball (Hungary).
