Today, May 22nd, the FISU Executive Committee met for its first session of its 2-day meeting at the Dolce La Hulpe Congress Center in Brussels, Belgium. This EC meeting is a very anticipated one as tomorrow the FISU EC will attribute the 2015 Universiades (27th Winter Universiade and 28th Summer Universiade).
Today’s meeting started with the draw of the presentation order for the SU candidate cities. Then the meeting moved on with the usual topics such as the approval of the minutes of the decisions of the FISU EC meeting in Harbin last February as well as the reports from President Killian, Treasurer Bayasgalan and Secretary-General Saintrond.
Vice-President Bergh presented on the Development Committee, Mrs. Burke, on the Women’s Committee, which she chairs. Ms. Anna Radonjic, IT Consultant from Siemens gave a presentation as well.
Right before the lunch break, FISU President officially opened the promotional booths of the 2015 Candidate Cities in the Conference Center.
After lunch, the FISU Executive Board Members took a closer look to the entries for the General Assembly, which will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, prior to the 2009 Summer Universiade, i.e. proposals from the member associations, proposals from the Executive Committee and new applications for FISU membership.
Then the floor was given to Marc Vandeplas, Director for the Summer Universiade and Assessor Stavros Douvis, Chair CTI SU, reporting on the preparations of the Belgrade Universiade followed by an update of the Belgrade Organizing Committee by Executive Director Mr. Dejan Susovic. With hardly six weeks to go all preparations are entering the last stretch and will be ready on July 1st.
Assessor Kairis Ulp, Chair CSU WU and Milan Augustin, Director for the Winter Universiade gave an update of the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey. The CSU is satisfied with the progress of the construction of the ice rinks. One ice rink is operational since the beginning of 2009 and already hosted a test event, the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship for U18, Division 3. The OC has already conducted successful seminars to train the WU Staff, especially in snow sports, held in Antalya. The presence of 720 key persons and volunteers confirmed a job well done by the Erzurum OC.
Director of World University Championships Laurent Briel closed today’s meeting giving an update on the 2010 and 2012 WUC with a number of new bidding cities who want to stage future WUC events.

2010 WUC Flatwater Canoeing in Poznan, Poland
2010 WUC Floorball in Umea, Sweden
2010 WUC Softball in Macerata, Italy
This brings the amount of WUC for 2010 to 29.
The EC members also decided on winner of the FISU Poster Contest 50-60
