OC #WUCBeachVolleyball2018 in Munich meets for First Time

Championships 3 October 2016

MUNICH – The 2018 World University Beach Volleyball Championship will be hosted by the Technical University of Munich. In the capital of Bavaria the Organisation Committee (OC) met for the first time for planning the event. The members discussed the current situation of the WUC venues as well as the composition of the OC and its task force.

In the meeting the OC members read up on the construction works of the new beach volleyball courts, which are located in the area of the Olympic Games 1972 in Munich. 13 fields will be built and they will be still available for the students of the Munich University Sport (ZHS München) after the WUC. The WUC concept is sustainable and energy-efficient: Accommodation and venues will be reachable by foot, bike or public transport.

Furthermore, the members discussed the composition of the OC and created five business fields: competition, finance, PR and marketing, logistics and protocol. For each activity field two persons, one from adh and one from ZHS München were appointed. The head of the OC will be represented by Dr. Verena Burk (University of Tübingen), First Assessor of FISU, as the OC President and Michael Hahn (Head of ZHS München) and Christoph Fischer (Secretary General of the adh) as Vice-Presidents.

Dr. Burk stated that, “similar to the WUC Equestrian 2012 in Aachen, Germany wants to be a good host for this international event. The first meeting of the organisation committee was successful and I’m sure that we are on the right way with the preparations for WUC Beach Volleyball in 2018.”

Christoph Fischer is looking forward to organizing the event: “The effective concept, the early planning and the teamwork of the organization committee are important factors for a successful event. We are glad to welcome athletes from all over the world and we want that every participant will feel comfortable.”
