China-Russia-CEEC University Winter Sports Carnival debuts in Harbin

HARBINThe inaugural China-Russia-CEEC (Central and Eastern European Countries) University Winter Sports Carnival, co-hosted by FUSC, RSSU and ASZ, kicked off in Harbin, China, the host city of the 2009 FISU Winter Universiade.

With the event going for one week, its opening ceremony was launched on December 28th, attended by Mr. Marian Dymalski, FISU VP, Mr. Yang Liguo, FISU VP & FUSC SG, Mr. Alexander Shevchuk, RSSU EC member & Vice Rector of Far Eastern State Academy of Physical Education, Mr. Zhu Zhiqiang, President of Harbin Sport University, and engaged by around 4,000 senior officials, faculty staff as well as students locally. The cultural performances highlighted by graceful ice dance, appealing acrobatics on ice and thrilling short track speed skating show, has delighted all the audience.

This carnival is characterized by snowboarding and curling competitions, with both lasting for two days respectively. During these intense and competitive races, all the students acquired the enjoyment through technical and cultural interaction among each other and have been awarded with event-tailored certificates, medals, trophies as well as souvenirs, which marks the beautiful memory for their participation and special New Year gift. 

Besides the competition, all the teams have explored the fantastic cultural journey in the city, such as Harbin Ice and Snow World, Harbin Polarland, Harbin Central Avenue, etc. Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that all the teams spent the New Year Celebration Gala together, on which occasion they appreciated an abundant variety of performances, highlighted by the aerobics, folk dance and martial arts performance; playing the interesting game “Learning to Speak Chinese” and tasting the famous Chinese snack sugar-coated haws; while their wonderful chorus performance in Russian song “Katiusza” and Polish song “Szanta Narciarska” has dazzled everyone.
