Gwangju Universiade Athletes’ Village revealed to Media

Athletes’ Village Mayor Lim Duck-ho welcomes journalists to the Gwangju Universiade Athletes’ Village on June 23 

GWANGJU – On 23 June, the Gwangju Universiade Athletes’ Village was revealed to the media to provide a chance to cover the facilities before its official opening on 26 June.

Village EntranceThe Athletes’ Village Media Day event started with the performance of Fusion Korean Traditional Music at the Flag Plaza. Journalists toured the Main Information Center (MIC) and Polyclinic to make sure that all supplies are well-prepared for the athletes by 26 June.

Journalists had a chance to try the meals that will be served at the AV Dining Hall. The buffet-type hall is comprised of western, eastern, vegetation, halal etc. cuisine.

Heat sensors are installed at the gates, entrance of AV dining hall, and Polyclinic to prevent the spread of MERS-CoV. The health condition of each athlete will be checked by thermo-scans. Participants who are suspected to have the virus will be sent to the triage for a thorough scan. In case of an infection, the individual will be sent to the hospital for the quarantine.

As of 24 June, 13,334 delegates from over 145 countries have confirmed their participation for the Universiade. Approximately 2,363 more athletes from 30 countries have registered to attend for the Gwangju Universiade since 3 June.
