GWANGJU – With the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade only a year and a half away, the FISU delegation began the first visit of the year.

From 10 to 14 February, 4 delegates from FISU will be inspecting the preparations being made for the 2015 Gwangju Universiade. The FISU delegates include:

– Marc Vandenplas, Summer Universiade Director

– Dejan Susovic, Director of Media and Communication / Head of TV production

– Laurent Briel, Director of Development & Special Projects

– Jing Zhao, Summer Universiade Manager

This is the first visit since the 3rd phase re-organization and expansion of the Gwangju OC, as well as the relocation of the OC’s headquarters, and overall operations and tasks will be discussed with the new staff.

The main focus of this visit will be to have inspection meetings and conduct educational seminars on IT & communications, accreditation, and TV & Media, which are professional fields in need of highly specialized knowledge, to prepare for a successful event.

In addition, the delegation will also be holding preparation meetings for international events occurring in Gwangju next month, such as the Supervision Committee Meeting and the FISU Seminar.

Kim Yoon-suk, the Secretary-General of Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee, said, “This is a critical time for our OC as we have entered into the practical stage of preparations after the re-organization.” He also added, “This visit from the FISU delegation will be a great opportunity to supplement on the areas needing development and host a successful Universiade.”

The Gwangju Universiade will be held for 12 days from 3 to 14 July, 2015, with some 20,000 expected participants from around 170 nations.
