30 June 2014

NAIROBI – The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 7th edition of the Federation of African University Sports (FASU) Games officially launched the games on 26 June 2014 by unveiling the objects of the Games, namely: the Logo, Theme and Mascot, during a ceremony held at the University of Nairobi Chancellor’s Court.

Speaking during the launch, FASU President Ralethe Malumbete called upon the academy to support games as one avenue of channelling the energies of the youth. Malumbete noted that it was time for Africa to embrace games as a way of creating wealth from an asset that Africa is endowed with.

While affirming the university’s commitment to support, facilitate and host the games, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro said that the University community welcomes such initiatives to engage with local and international peers an experience that is enriching to students, staff and the entire nation. Elaborating the theme for the FASU Games “Peace and Solidarity in Africa through University Sports” he noted that this is a rallying point for peaceful co-existence and a firm foundation to exploit diversities.

This is the second time the University of Nairobi is hosting these games. The first time was in 1978.
