2010 FISU Forum Update: Final Conslusions and Closing Ceremony

Sami GarabedianVIGO – Today, June 27th, the 10th FISU Forum came to an end. The morning session started once more with the reports of the findings from the workshops on the final sub-theme ‘University Sport and Academic Recognition’ of the previous day.

After these presentations the floor was given to the moderators of the workshop for students and the workshop for officials. The student findings were presented by Rebecca and Makhosandile Majeke (RSA) from the Walter Sisulu University and Olivia Morre-Gillon (GBR) from the University of Manchester. Sami Garabedian (LEB), Director of Athletics at the Lebanese American University and Secretary of External Relations of the FSUL presented the findings of the officials group.

Mrs. Alison Odell, CESU Vice-Chair presented an award to the representatives of the NUSF which had submitted the best NUSF Strategy plan for the future, a request from CESU earlier on. The winners were Australia, Great Britain, Mexico and Senegal.

Today’s session ended with the presentation of the next academic FISU events, i.e. the Scientific Conference at the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey and the 11th Forum. The conference, presented by Prof. Zekeriya Aktürk, will be hosted by the Atatürk University and will take place from January 24th to 27th, 2011. The hosts of the next FISU Forum, which will be hosted in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, presented their city to the Vigo participants. Prof. Chia-Hua Kuo of the Taipei Physical Education College extended a kind invitation to the participants to come to Taipei. The 11th FISU Forum will take place in 2012. The exact date still needs to be fixed.

Daniela from Costa Rica receives her certificateAt 16h30 and after the speeches of the different authorities and the distribution of the ‘Diploma of Participation’ to the Forum attendants, the 10th edition of the FISU academic event was officially closed by CESU Chair Claude-Louis Gallien.

Before closing the event, Mr. Gallien read the ‘FISU Declaration of Vigo’, summarizing the findings of the six-day academic event of FISU. When the FISU Flag was lowered the Choir of the University of Vigo gave an a capella performance of the ‘Gaudemus Igitur’, the FISU anthem.

 

 

The participants rated the 10th edition of the FISU Forum as outstanding in their evaluation forms. Indeed, the Organization Committee did a wonderful job welcoming 280 participants representing 71 countries from five continents in Vigo. Not only the OC, but the volunteers, the majority students from the University of Vigo received a standing ovation of the participants.
