FISU Steering Committee meets in Brussels

BRUSSELS – On 20-21 March 2015 the Steering Committee of FISU composed of the President Claude-Louis Gallien, 1st Vice-President Oleg Matytsin, four Vice-Presidents, Stefan Bergh, Luciano Cabral, Leonz Eder and Xinsheng Zhang, Treasurer Bayasgalan Danzandorj, 1st Assessor Alison Odell and Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond met in Brussels (Belgium) in order to prepare the next meeting of the FISU Executive Committee Meeting that will be held in Gwangju (Rep. of Korea) from 30 June to 1 July 2015.

FISU President Gallien & 1st Vice-President MatytsinAn important part of the meeting was dedicated to the revision of the Statutes that will be submitted by the Executive Committee to the General Assembly that will be held in November 2015.

The first debriefing after the 2015 Winter Universiade held in Granada (Spain) and Strbske Pleso/Osrblie (Slovakia) has been presented by the Secretary-General/CEO and in his report he has also mentioned the successful TV coverage of the Winter Games for which FISU had been the host broadcaster.

Today, we have already received the monitoring report of the number of viewers only on EuroSport channel, which is more than 25 million viewers for the 10-day competition.

The situation of the Summer and Winter Universiade 2019 and 2021 has been also discussed by the Steering Committee and as for 2019, already a couple of candidates have been announced to replace the City of Brasilia which withdrew just a few months ago.

As for 2021, FISU has already received a number of interests, which will be confirmed during the month of April 2015.

The Development Committee, Educational Committee and World University Championships Technical Committee have already reported on their activities, and the nomination of new Technical Delegates for Championships has been decided and will be officially confirmed by the FISU Executive Committee members during their meeting in June in Gwangju.

The FISU Treasurer has also presented his report including the 2014 financial report.

FISU 1st Vice-President Oleg Matytsin has presented to all members of the Steering Committee the diploma signed by President Putin for the contribution of the FISU Family to the success of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan.
