AZS celebrated its 25th National General Assembly

WILKASY – The 25th National General Assembly convention of the Polish University Sports Association (AZS) was held between 6-7 June 2014 in Wilkasy near Gizycko, in the AZS sports and recreation centre. Professor Marek Rocki, senator of the Republic of Poland was again chosen the President of AZS. As the new vice president for professional sport was elected Mr Andrzej Szewinski, senator of the Republic of Poland and 1993 Summer Universiade silver medalist in Volleyball.

Honorary members

Honorary members, invited guests and 170 delegates from the whole country attended the Assembly. The Assembly started with the nomination of nine new honorary members within them are coaches, athletes and activists of AZS. The Assembly decorated nine athletes with the Bronisław Czech medal for the most outstanding sports achievements: canoe sprint – Karolina Naja (WUC 2012 – 2 gold medals), judo – Zuzanna Pawlikowska (SU 2013 – silver medal), fencing – Małgorzata Stroka, Magdalena Piekarska, Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk and Ewa Nelip (SU 2009 – gold medal), rowing – Zbigniew Schodowski, biathlon – Weronika Nowakowska-Ziemniak (WU 2013 – 4 medals) and Krystyna Palka.

Student-athletes

Polish state authorities were represented by Mr Adam Soroko, Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Sport and Tourism who presented the Brown Badge of Merit for Sport. Some of the present guests were awarded with the Golden Badge of AZS. After this it was time for the most important part of the Assembly – the election.

For the sixth time Professor Marek Rocki will continue his presidency. Presidium of the Board: Vice-Presidents are Tomasz Szponder – organizational affairs, Andrzej Szewinski – professional sport (the only new person), Dariusz Piekut – popularization of physical culture, Adam Roczek – international affairs, and Jacek Kasprzyk – treasurer. Completed by Marian Dymalski, Jakub Kosowski, Tomasz Wrobel and the Secretary General Bartlomiej Korpak.

The Assembly adopted several resolutions for example the nomination of the international affairs committee, and the general resolution tasks and plans for the new elected AZS authorities in the next two years.
