AUSF Executive Committee Meeting – Day 2

27 May 2011

ALMATY – In the morning, the Session II of AUSF EC meeting started with the reports of 5 sub-regional liaisons. It was quite encouraging that there were no communication problems within 11 countries from Southeastern Asia, who have yearly a regular meeting. Central Asia includes 5 stan countries and Mongolia. Because Mongolia shares similar culture and language with the another 5, Mongolia was put in the same group with the 5 stan countries. But there was some communication problems between the liaison and the 3 stan countries, named Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, because of the financial problem. The EC meeting decided that the AUSF can help them with some necessary equipments, like fax machine, in the hope to guarantee the smooth communication. For the East Asia and West Asia, more regular contacts were expected. Regarding South Asia, more liaison measures should be taken.

Also, the collaboration with sub-regional areas was discussed. It was expected to have rotating Asian University Games to be held in 5 sub-regional areas, in the hope to cope with the wide spread reality of Asia.

Later on, Iran made a proposal to set up an AUSF sub-committee of university sports study, which was approved by the EC members in principle, and how to carry it out and how to make it sustainable would be further studied. The 1st AUSF Conference will be held this November in Iran. It is always one of AUSF dreams to have more non-athletes university students to be cared by AUSF.

Finally, the EC meeting ended with the reports from the OC of AUSF activities in 2011 and 2012, including 1st Asian University Wrestling Championship and AUSF Conference in Iran this November, 1st Asian University Golf Championship and next EC meeting in Thailand this December, 2nd Asian University Women’s Volleyball Championship in Mongolia in April 2012.

In the afternoon, the EC members were invited to have a meeting with the Almaty Mayor, who gave great support of the hosting of this Taekwondo Championship. President ZHANG Xinsheng expressed the heartfelt gratitude to the mayor of city on behalf of AUSF members.

After that, a conference was held in the Kazakhstan Academy of Sport and Tourism. Nearly 1,000 students and teachers from Kazakhstan attended this conference. President ZHANG Xinsheng delivered a speech and Secretary General CHOW Kenny made a presentation of AUSF, including the history, objective, organizational structure and the activities held in the past few years. During the conference, President ZHANG Xinsheng was awarded as the Honorary Professor of Kazakhstan Academy of Sport and Tourism.
