BASELGA DI PINE – Last night, 2 February, under a fairy-tale atmosphere, made even more enchanting by the soft snowfall, the 3rd WUC Speed Skating kicked-off with the Opening Ceremony at the Ice Rink Pinè. The National teams paraded accompanied by the tunes of the local band Folk Pinetano.
Paolo Collini, the Rector of the University of Trento, Giorgio Torgler, the President of the Provincial section of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), Lamberto Postal, the Alta Valsugana and Bersnstol Council member for sport, Ugo Grisenti, Mayor of Baselga di Piné, Enrico Colombini, the President of the Ice Rink Piné and Pio Rizzolli the Vice-President of A.p.T. Pinè Cembra speeched at the Ceremony.
Before the lightening of the cauldron, the same of the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013, Fritz Holzer, honorary member of FISU, opened the FISU Championship. He recalled that “Speed Skating has a long and great international tradition in university sports. Even at the first championship, called ‘Winter Student World Championship’, that took place in this Italian region in 1928, speed skating was in the sports programme. I wish to all of you, to the athletes, to the officials, to the coaches and to the Organizing Committee a fair, successful and great competition. Enjoy this marvellous week of friendship.”
Men’s Team Pursuit Medal Podium
The competitions started at 20h00 with the 1,500 meters Men, the 3,000 meters Ladies and the breath-taking Team Sprint (6 Nations). From 20h00 (CET), are live on Eurosport, the international broadcast.
Last night the Hungarian athlete Konrad Nagy won the 1,500-meter race with a time of 1:51.22, second place for Linus Michael Heidegger from Austria (1:52.07) and third place for Adrian Wielgat (1:52.19) from Poland.
In the Ladies 3,000 meters gold medal for the Japanese athlete Nana Takahashi (4:24.16), silver medal for the Polish athlete Urzula Wlodarczyk (4:29.66) and bronze medal for Willemijn Cnossen (4:30.83) from the Netherlands.
The Italian Team with a time of 3:57.82 conquered the eight lapses pursuit race and the gold medal. Second place for Poland (4:03.05) and third place for Russia (4:06.61).
