7th World University Floorball Championship

Porto (POR) - 2016

Finland takes it all at 7th FISU WUC Floorball: M & W claim Gold

After an epic final, both the men’s and women’s teams from Finland crowned themselves the newest World University Floorball Champions ending the 7th FISU World University Floorball Championship in Porto, Portugal on Sunday 24 July.

During both finals, for over 60 minutes the main court was a battlefield of strength and intensity from both sides! The game couldn’t be solved in regular playing time, hence Finland and Sweden ended up taking some extra time to decide who would take the title home. In the end, the Suomi men scored the golden goal winning by 5-4. Their female counterparts won by 3-2 after penalties!

The battle for the bronze medal in the women’s competition was also a thriller. The Czech and Swiss teams fought till the very last minute with the Czechs winning the bronze after a 5-4 victory. In the men’s competition it was the other way around with Switzerland beating the Czechs by 3-1 and claiming the 3rd place of this tournament.

In the women’s competition, Poland won the 5th place beating Japan 2-0, the latter settling for the 6th place.

In the men’s tournament, Portugal was a big surprise winning the 7th place. The home team won the last game beating Japan (5-3) achieving three victories at its first participation ever on an international floorball championship. Slovakia won the 5th place beating Spain.

The next edition of the FISU WUC Floorball will be hosted in Lodz, POL in 2018.
