Watch Now! 3×3 League Finals – Championship Day

18 November 2018

XIAMEN — The 3×3 FISU World University League 2018 Finals comes down to this — the day when one men’s and one women’s team will be earn the right to head back to campus as the world’s best 3×3 university crew.

After three days of hoops, eight men’s and women’s team are still in contention for the title. While there’s no holding bach the intensity of the nearly non-stop action of 3×3, team endurance will also be key for those with title aspirations as the quarters, semis and finals all take place on championship Sunday.

While every game brings its own match-ups and opportunities for an upset, four women’s teams come into the final day having only tasted victory; something that cannot continue Sunday simply by virtue of the win-or-go-home nature of the last day of the 3×3 League finals. Will it be one of the undefeated four: Vasyl Stefanyk University (UKR); Tsinghua University (CHN), Chinese Culture University (TPE), University of Ljubljana (CRO); which will head home champions? Only time will tell. While past accomplishments do not ensure future performance, Chinese Culture University comes into the final day as the defending champion while Tsinghua University has an incredible inside-outside game amongst all four players that is led by Song Kexin. Can the 1.73 metre sparkplug lead to the Beijing-based institution hoisting the League title for the first time in 2018?

On the men’s side, defending champion Mon-Altius Physical Education, fresh off the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires has found the competition here in Xiamen at another level, just squeaking by with savvy play in the final six seconds of yesterday’s quarterfinals to keep their aspirations of a 3×3 title repeat alive. A host of other teams from Canada to the Chinese look like worthy title contenders as well.
