Tartu gets ready for the show

Ski Orienteering kicks off the 2018 World University Championship series in Estonia

TARTU, ESTONIA – The 2018 FISU World University Ski Orienteering Championship are coming to the country’s winter sports playground town Tartu from 21 to 25 February 2018 for the second edition of this FISU Championship. Organized by Estonian Academic Sports Federation (EASF) and the Estonian Orienteering Federation (EOF), with strong support from the City of Tartu, the Estonian Ministries of Culture, of Education and Research, as well as local orienteering clubs and volunteers, the city and hosts are ready for the world’s best university ski orienteering athlete to compete in the Nordic sports loving Baltic nation.

 The Haanja venue is covered in natural snow and ready for competitions to beginDuring the four upcoming competition days, races in the sprint, pursuit, mixed relay and middle distance mass start disciplines will test the very best male and female student-athletes from ski orienteering. Preparations for the event are going well even taking into consideration the typical variable low altitude Estonian weather, with the event organisers looking to provide the best course conditions for the contestants. At the moment, there is plenty of snow and everyone is working hard preparing for the upcoming week.

Conditions are the forest are ideal for Ski Orienteering competitions In total, 14 teams have safely arrived in the university city of Tartu. All 72 competitors will start tomorrow on a model event in Haanja ski centre in preparation for the four competition days ahead.
