Winter Games 10 March 2015

KRASNOYARSK – On 6 March, Victor Tolokonsky, the Governor of the region had a meeting with the members of the FISU International Technical Committee concerning the preparation and delivery of the 29th Winter Universiade in the city of Krasnoyarsk. The meeting was attended by regional government members, the regional Legislative Assembly Speaker Alexander Uss, Krasnoyarsk Mayor Edkham Akbulatov, Director General of the Executive Directorate of the Universiade 2019 Maxim Urazov, SibFU rector Evgeny Vaganov and the FISU representatives.

The members of the FISU delegation presented to the Governor the results of their visit in Krasnoyarsk and gave recommendations regarding the city’s preparations for the 2019 WU.

During four days, the FISU delegates inspected in details the sports and medical venues which will be used during the 2019 WU and studied the project of the future Athletes’ Village. Besides, the FISU members met with the city and regional authorities and students associations. During these meetings, they discussed the Universiade venues designing and construction, the development of the transport infrastructure and urban amenities, the sports programme and the Universiade Legacy.

“The Universiade will be a great experience for the whole region. I am glad the people engaged into its preparation demonstrate great professionalism and are excited over the work. It’s important to save this core team till 2019″, said Eric Saintrond, FISU SG/CEO.

The FISU CTI Chair Roger Roth mentioned the necessity of making some corrections on the existing slopes and some changes in the design projects of new sports venues and the importance of holding test events in the Universiade venues a year before the Games.

Victor Tolokonsky reminded the Organizing Committee members to follow all the FISU requirements: “I ask everyone involved into the Universiade preparation to mind each requirement and recommendation made by the FISU Technical Committee”, – emphasized Victor Tolokonsky. “The region’s and the city’s future depends much on our today’s decisions and actions, as the sports and infrastructure venues which will be built for the Universiade will contribute to the all-round development of Krasnoyarsk and students sport in our country for many years in the future. Everything must be done with commitment.”

The next visit of the WU-CTI in the regional capital is expected in 2017.
