2017 WU Test Event: Kazakhstan Open Figure Skating Championship

ALMATY – On 9 December, the Kazakhstan Open Figure Skating Championship started in “Almaty Arena” which comprises athletes under 18 from all over the country and world. In particular, around 80 athletes from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan take part in free skating and short program.

The Opening ceremony started with the welcome speech of the Head of the mass department of the Almaty Department of Physical Training and Sport Almas Makhanbetiyarov and continued with the concert and dance performances. 

At the first day of the test event prior to the 28th Winter Universiade 2017 the athletes performed in the singles and pairs short programme.

The day was ended with the victory of athletes from Almaty Gaukhar Nauryzova and Boisangur Datiyev (38points) in pairs ice dance. The second and third places went to the athletes from Uzbekistan Yulia Kim and Shohrukh Sultanov, Amira Miralimova and Konstantin Li with 22.52 and 21.40 points.

“I trained and worked very hard for this competition. This is my second Kazakhstan Championship. I started figure skating when I was 5 years old. The last couple of years I represent Almaty. This year I took part in the European Championship “Open Andorra 2016” and won the third place”, 13-years old Alana Toktarova shared her impressions after the short programme.

 The event is hosted in the new ice palace “Almaty Arena”.
