Selection events for Winter Universiade 2019 volunteers launched in Krasnoyarsk
KRASNOYARSK – On May 21, selection events to choose volunteers to work at the 29th Winter Universiade 2019 have been officially launched. The festive occasion took place on the territory of the Fun Park Bobrovy Log, the Universiade venue and investment project of the Universiade General Partner “Norilsk Nickel”. Around 500 people took part in the event.
The participants of the event were welcomed by Viktor Tolokonsky, the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Milan Augustin, the FISU Winter Universiade Director, Alexey Kleshko, the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Maxim Urazov, the Director General of the ANO “Executive Directorate of the 29th Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk” and Elena Gavrilova, the Director General of the Fun Park Bobrovy Log.

“Volunteers will help guests and participants of the Universiade to get acquainted with Krasnoyarsk, with Russia, with our history and traditions. Therefore, the process of selection and training of voluntary assistants with the high knowledge of foreign languages, the history of the region, and the ability to give first aid is a very important issue. In addition, we want to create a special atmosphere for volunteers, so that they not only perform their functions, but also show our warm hospitality”, – said Viktor Tolokonsky, the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
Then the honored guests, including the FISU delegation, arrived in Krasnoyarsk to take part in the 28th Winter Universiade Almaty 2017 Debriefing Meeting, and future volunteers, joined the main event of the holiday – breaking the record of the number of people hugging each other. Leonid Senatorov, the chief expert of the Russian Book of Records in the Central Federal District, visited Krasnoyarsk in order to register the result. The record of the largest group hug consisted of 438 people was registered.
Students from the Winter Universiade 2019 Communities, opened in the major universities of such cities as Norilsk, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Arkhangelsk and Kazan, joined this historic event using video conferencing. The local music bands and dance troupes performed on the main stage for the participants of the event. A guest from St. Petersburg, DJ Feel (Philippe Belikov), became the headliner of the festive event.
“Volunteers play an important role in organizing such major and significant events for our country. We expect to select and train a team of 5000 volunteers to work at the Winter Universiade 2019. Our goal is to select people and invest in their education. As for the students, it is a unique opportunity to get knowledge, unforgettable experience and emotions. At this moment the competition among those wishing to become volunteers of the Universiade is impressive. We receive a lot of applications from other Russian cities – everyone wants to become a part of such a major international event as the Winter Universiade 2019. In the first place, we will give preference to the residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, but we also expect about 800-1000 people from other cities. Finally, the team of volunteers will be formed by September 2018”, says Maxim Urazov, Director General of the ANO “Executive Directorate of the 29th Winter Universiade.”
