CHENGDU – While the athletes’ village for the Chengdu 2021 FISU Summer World University Games might still be a construction zone at the moment, the venue is shaping up to script as a world-class venue befitting its home on the Chengdu University campus.

The World University Games Village – known affectionately in the western Chinese metropolis as "The Village" – will be home for students and future international sports events after the World University Games concludes.

After a short break during the traditional Chinese spring festival construction is now back in an orderly manner, local event organisers told FISU.

As a core part of the Games, the construction of the village is of vital importance."

The village project manager also noted that the athletes' games-time home will have medical centers, service centers, fitness centers, training halls, and commercial shopping streets.

“We will provide a safe and comfortable environment for athletes and other delegates,” said Gang. “Staying here will be an enjoyable experience for all.”

The project’s guiding vision is to design a venue for living that fully embraces cultural integration and sustainability. Living long past Games-time and in tune to the future development of the Chengdu University.

The students won’t have to wait long to call this new facility home as the village’s project manager expressed full confidence in finishing the project on time with students moving in after the fall 2020 academic semester.

Right now, we are more than 80 percent of the way done with the medical centers and the training halls, and we have completed the athletes' apartment and international education center,” said Gang, who noted construction had recently begun on the swimming pool complex and gymnasiums.

"We will further optimize our construction plan and increase the number of workers on the site to complete the whole project by the end of this year."
