Mongolia sends student-athletes off in style to Summer Universiade 2019

The Mongolian delegation, comprised of the 33 student-athletes that will soon take on the competitions in sevens sports of the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade, and the team-behind-the team, the coaches and officials

ULAANBAATAR – Gathered at the nation’s national library, the Mongolian Student Sports Federation put on an fitting send-off to the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade for the country’s finest student-athletes. 33 student-athletes, 13 coaches and 7 officials are now on their way to the southern Italy to compete in seven of the 18 sports – archery, shooting, judo, taekwondo, tennis, swimming and table tennis – of the event’s competitions. 222 medals sets are on the line during the twelve-day event, which gets underway un 3 July.

The send-off was attended by Mr. Bayasgalan D., President of Mongolian Student Sports Federation (MSSF) and FISU Treasurer; His Excellency Mr. Andrea De Felip, Ambassador of Embassy of Italy to Mongolia; D.Jargalsaikhan- CIC Vice-Chair of FISU; Mr. Badar-Uugan E., Secretary General of Mongolian National Olympic committee; Mr. Odonbayar Ts., Head of State Administration and Finance Division of the Physical Culture and Sports Authority Mongolia; delegates from Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports of Mongolia (MECSS) and board member of the MSSF; seven national sports federation heads; and principals and physical education teachers of universities. More than 10 national media channels all wished their success to departing athletes and members of team through their broadcast and news reports.

During the send off ceremony, Ms. Nandinzaya G., Kazan 2013 Summer Universiade silver and bronze medalist and who now represents Mongolia as a member of the national shooting team, and Mr. Temuujin P., Olympic Summer Games Rio 2016 competitions and athlete of the national taekwondo team, took the athletes’ oath on behalf of all Mongolian competitors. During the function athletes also received their official Summer Universiade 2019 uniform from the clothing brand Kelme.

Mr. Tsogtbaatar Ts. a Olympic Summer Games Rio 2016 judoka and national team athlete was selected to carry the flag into San Paulo Satdium for opening to the 30th Summer Universiade.

 

Major sponsorship and financial support came from the MECSS and Physical culture and sports authority. Also, Embassy of Italy to Mongolia, “Erdenes-Tavantolgoi” JSC, Golomt bank, “MIAT” JSC, KELME and various sports associations contributed in sponsoring the national university sports team.

Since the Budapest 1965 Summer Universiade, young generations of Mongolian student-athletes have competed in this landmark event, with Napoli 2019 marking the 21st time the country has taken to the Summer Universiade sports stage. Mongolia won a total of 53 medals at Summer Universiades, including 11 gold, 16 silver, and 26 bronze from 9 sport disciplines. In recent years NUSF Mongolia is actively pursuing a more regular participation of athletes in Summer Universiade games.

Another important feature of this send off came in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Mongolian Student Sports Federation. The MSSF was established on June 25, 1989 by National committee for sports and PE Mongolia, Mongolian Youth Federation, Mongolian student union and Ministry of Education.
