2015 SU Update: Storytelling Contest for the Gwangju Universiade Slogan

GWANGJU – Everybody has a highlight in life. In a storytelling contest, ordinary people share moments of their lives that inspired their dreams and gave them courage to move towards tomorrow.

The event is held to better promote the slogan of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, ‘Light Up Tomorrow.’ The Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) is welcoming various contents until December 18th under the theme of “Grateful Moments of My Life – Light Up Tomorrow!”

This contest is co-hosted with NHN, one of the top internet service providers ofKoreawith an intention of delivering the meaning of the 2015 Universiade slogan more effectively and encouraging people’s participation nationwide by nursing the public interest.

Anyone can enter the contest by uploading essays, videos, photos or web-toons that describe life’s moments that have lightened their days through messages of hope, dream, courage, and happiness.

Kim Byung-soo, the marketing director of the GUOC, said, “We are going to create a pool of heart-moving stories related to the slogan of the 2015 Gwangju Universiade and use the stories to promote the event until 2015.”

The winner of the grand prize will be awarded about 3,000 USD. iPads and digital cameras will be given to the second and third place winners.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the event should visit the website (http://cafe.naver.com/light2015) and submit contents by December 18th. Details can be found on the 2015 Universiade homepage as well as on the internet event café.

○ The slogan ‘Light Up Tomorrow’ contains a strong will to provide an opportunity to contribute to the harmony of the world and to brighten up the future of the global village.

○ The slogan is a combination of ‘Light’ (symbol of Gwangju) and ‘Tomorrow’ (symbol of the Universiade, a feast of future leaders) and it expresses the wishes and expectations for the success of the event.

○ The slogan, which came from current slogans used for the city ofGwangju– “Light of the Creation, Light of the Future’ and ‘Happy and Creative City of Gwangju,’ – is a manifestation of volition and confidence to host the event creatively and set new criteria for future Universiades.

○ The slogan is not just for the 2015 Gwangju Universiade; it indicates the vision that the entire human race should embrace.
