Ekaterinburg preparations on track, FISU inspection visit concludes

Summer Games 17 February 2022

Preparations for the Ekaterinburg 2023 FISU World University Games are progressing at good pace, following a three-day FISU inspection visit to the Russian city.

The FISU representatives toured the competition venues – both the existing ones and those still under construction – and met with members of the Organising Committee.

“These visits are crucial for us and we are extremely proud to share the progress we are making,” said Alexander Chernov, Head of the Ekaterinburg 2023 FISU Games Directorate. “With our growing experience, we are confident in all aspects of the preparations.”

The FISU delegation included FISU Vice-President Marian Dymalski, FISU Games Summer Deputy Director Jing Zhao, FISU Education and Development Director Lilia Barieva, and FISU Games Summer Event Manager Brian Carrer.

The team visited the Games Village, the administrative centre, one of the dormitory buildings, the athletics stadium of the Kalininec Sports Centre, the Palace of Water Sports, and the Ekaterinburg International Exhibition Center.

Lilia Barieva also visited the premises of the Ural Federal University, where the FISU World Conference will take place during the Games.

The FISU delegation underlined the significant potential of these venues as a legacy for the city and the region.

“A lot has been achieved since our last visit in September and every party involved in organising the Games is working with a lot of enthusiasm,” said Jing Zhao.  “Competitions to be held in Ekaterinburg are very important to both FISU and the student sports community as a whole.”

“We believe the city’s preparations are progressing at a good pace and that everything will be completed on time,” said Marian Dymalski.

FISU has planned further inspections visits to Ekaterinburg in the coming months.
