Chengdu welcomes FISU Games flame travelling from Turin

Summer Games 25 February 2022

In a ceremony held today at the city’s Jinsha Site Museum, the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games welcomed the FISU flame travelling from Turin (Italy).

FISU Vice President Shen Zhen officially handed over this flame of hope to the host of the 31st summer edition of the FISU World University Games, to take place from 26 June to 7 July this year.

The flame was lit last January in Turin – host of the first FISU World University Games back in 1959. The ceremony also featured the lighting of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games torch, named Rong Huo, and the FISU flame cauldron.

Luo Zhihuan, the first torchbearer of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and China’s first world champion in winter sports, sent his best wishes for a successful Chengdu 2021 FISU Games – via video.

Chengdu was confirmed as the host back in December 2018 and is now ready for the grand gathering of university student-athletes from around the world.

More events, including the selection of flame bearers as well as online and offline Flame Relay, are planned in the lead-up to the upcoming Chengdu 2021 FISU Games.
