2010 WUC Rugby 7s Update: Day 2

Rugby 23 July 2010

PORTO – The second day of the World University Championship of Rugby Sevens was plenty of sweat, anxiety, effort, dedication and tackles. There were some national teams that stood out, but there were also other ones who regretted their bad luck.

“Tomorrow we have to win”, this was the main conclusion that a Hungarian male player took after being defeated by the Spanish national team. In fact, Hungary got its second loss in the tournament. Despite considering Porto as a “very nice place”, this team hadn’t obtained any points in the Championship of Sevens.

On the contrary, Canada imposed once again their way of playing. “There´s no party. We are totally focused on our aims”, confessed, in a friendly way, a Canadian player at the end of the match.

In a growing competitive environment, the public, who came to Bessa Stadium, had the opportunity to observe all the stars of seventeen national teams presented in this event. Vladimiro Feliz, from the City Hall of Porto, admitted that he was fascinated with the Portuguese female participation. “We have a team! Great Women!”, summed up.

LUNCH TIME

In front of Bessa XXI there is an eating area created for the WUC Rugby Sevens. The Fontes Pereira de Melo High School has decided to help out the organization of this championship.

In order to take advantage of the latest and new facilities, the cafeteria opening day was specially organized for this event. In a peaceful atmosphere, those who intervene throughout the competition have lunch while they enjoy a break to meet new people and students from others countries.

The President of Organizing Committee of WUC Rugby Sevens, Manuel Janeira, is delighted with the school engagement during the whole event. “We need to be grateful for this sort of effort and dedication shown by this school”.
