SELL Countries celebrated 30th SELL Games in Tartu

TARTU – From 16 to 18 May Tartu hosted the 2014 SELL Games. During three day 1,669 participants from 60 different higher education schools participated in 14 different sports events. Altogether, 12 countries were represented – the furthest delegation came from China, but also Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Belgium, Germany, Georgia, Slovakia, Sweden, Norway and Estonia were represented.

As expected, the biggest amount of participants came from host country Estonia – altogether 14 schools with 508 participants were represented. A remarkable amount of participants came also from Lithuania, i.e. 12 schools with 401 participants, while the third biggest was Latvia with 326 athletes from 9 schools.

The most successful school of this year’s SELL Games was the Lithuanian Sports University which took home 19 gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze medals. The same total number of medals – 48 – was won by The University of Tartu that conquered 15 gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze medals. Third most successful university was Riga Technical University with 25 medals.

SELL Games project manager Pille Tali said the games were a complete success. “We had everything that is needed to organise a great sports event – happy and active people, good weather along with top-level catering and the best city for organising this kind of event. Sports venues of Tartu offered the best conditions for the athletes to achieve the best results.”

Next SELL Games will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania 15-17 May, 2015.
