Lajos Mocsai elected new President of Hungarian University Sports Federation

Prof. Dr. Ádám Kiss, the outgoing President of MEFS, was appointed Inherited Member of MEFS, in recognition of his work and contribution. 

 

The MEFS Electoral General Assembly was opened by outgoing President Prof. Dr. Ádám Kiss, in the Athens Hall of the University of Physical Education. The MEFS General Assembly also traditionally awards prizes in recognition of outstanding work done for university sports. The awards were presented by – among others – Dr. Tünde Szabó, Secretary of State for Sport.

 

NewBoard MEFSThe newly elected board of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (MEFS)The new President and Vice Presidents have been involved in the work of FISU and EUSA on numerous occasions: President Prof. Dr. Lajos Mocsai was the host of the first ever online FISU World Forum 2020, as Rector of UPE. Vice President Prof. Dr. Zoltán Bács, Chancellor of the University of Debrecen, will be the host of one of the venues for the 2024 Miskolc – Debrecen European Universities Games, while Vice President Prof. Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University, was an active participant at the 2020 FISU World Forum.

 

Dr. András Levente Gál, also Vice President, is the leader of the Digital Success Program in Hungary and is actively working towards a Hungarian bid for the World University Games.

 

During the first MEFS Board Meeting chaired by the new President, Péter Juhász was appointed Secretary General. In the past, Juhász has been in charge of the direction of numerous sports events’ organisation, has recently been Director of Sports at the National University of Public Service and previously Head of Department at the State Secretariat of Sport within the Ministry of Human Capacities. Juhász takes over the tasks from Dr. Mózes Székely, who had been MEFS Secretary General for eight years.

 

Dr. Tamás Sterbenz, General Vice-Rector of UPE, former Vice President of MEFS will contribute in the work of the Hungarian University Sports Federation from now on as Presidential Advisor. Besides the new Presidency, new committees have been set up to develop and oversee the appropriate strategic guidelines with the involvement of experts in the field.
