The Brazilian University Games in Fortaleza (CE) are the scenery for national Olympians. Important Brazilians athletes with Olympic Games and World Cup experience are participating in these CBDU University Games and exchange experiences with the younger players. To name a few: Felipe França, silver in 50m breaststroke at the 2009 FINA World Cup in Rome and at the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade; Hudson Souza, three gold medals in Pan-American Games (2003 and 2007) at 1.500m and 5.000m; Matheus Inocêncio, finalist at 110m hurdles at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and Yane Marques 18th place in pentathlon at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The swimming and athletics competitions started this Thursday (20/08) in Fortaleza, as well as Judo and chess. In Judo all eyes are on Charles Chibana, silver at the 2007 Judo World Cup in Beijing and bronze at Tokyo in 2008 and Breno Alves from the Brazilian U23 team.

High-level athletes participate in the handball tournament as well. Guilherme Rosa and Léo Bortolini won gold at the 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio and participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics with the Brazilian team. Here at the CBDU University Games they now are on opposite sides: Bortolini plays for Paraná and Gui Rosa for São Paulo. And Aline Pará plays for the Santa Catarina handball team in these CBDU Games. She won gold in the 2003 Pan-American Games (Santo Domingo) and 2007 (Rio de Janeiro) and participated in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as well as in Beijing in 2008.

CBDU President & FISU Vice-President Luciano Cabral“During the CBDU Games we can watch some of ours best athletes in action while they exchange experiences with the younger players who are World Cup and Olympic hopefuls for future. That´s the most important victory we have at these University Games”, said Luciano Cabral, FISU Vice-President and CBDU President.
