GWANGJU – The 2015 Gwangju Summer Univerisade Organizing Committee (GUOC 2015) and the Office for Hub City of Asian Culture (OHCAC) of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed an agreement to promise support and cooperation in the successful delivery of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade as well as creating a hub city of Asian Culture in Gwangju.

The two organizations will cooperate in cooperative promotions such as sharing official websites and SNS channels, operating joint promotions (on and offline), and supporting each other in building a network with the international media. In the future, cooperation will be given in planning of joint cultural events.

Kim Yoon-suk, the Secretary General of GUOC, said, “The Gwangju Universiade is not only a mere sporting event but will realize the value of culture and education. Therefore collaborating with the Promotional Group for Hub City of Asian Culture will lead to the growth of Gwangju into an international city of culture.”

Kim Sung-il, the Head of the OHCAC, stressed the importance of cooperation between the two organizations in order to realize Gwangju as the hub of Asian culture and stated, “The Hub City of Asian Culture Project is the single largest cultural project in the history of the nation and various cultural events will be planned in line with the hosting of the Gwangju Universiade next year.”

The Asian Culture Complex, being built by the OHCAC, will be completed by the end of this year and is scheduled to operate from next year. During the period of the Gwangju Universiade, from July 3rd to 14th, the Asian Culture Complex will allow a sneak peak of the culture hub of Gwangju for the participants of the Universiade.
