2013 WU Trentino receives High Patronage of the Republic’s President

ROME - The 26th Winter Universiade, to be held in Trentino, Italy, from 11 to 21 December, 2013, has been honoured with the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

The High Patronage is a title given by the Italian Government to initiatives considered to be particularly meritorious. The official announcement was given yesterday in Rome, during the presentation of the 2013 Winter Universiade to the Foreign Press Association, by the president of the Organizing Committee, Sergio Anesi.

The next steps, meanwhile, are almost ready to start. On 6 November, Pope Francis, in Rome, will light the Universiade torch, a universal symbol of sport and peace. The torch relay will then reach several cities all across Europe to share with the public its values, and the hope for a better future.
