Multisports 21 February 2012

KAZAN – The ‘Learn Cultures of Kazan 2013 Participating Nations’-Project kicked off in the Universiade Village on February 16th. Thanks to the project, residents of the student campus will get to know cultures of different countries that may become participants of the 2013 Summer Universiade inKazan.

The ‘Learn Cultures of Kazan 2013 Participating Nations’-Project is aimed to increase students’ knowledge, to broaden their outlook and to trigger their interest towards history of the countries that are to participate in the 2013 Summer Universiade. Sweden became the first country to be discovered by the students of the Universiade Village. The event’s attendees found out sports preferences of Swedish people, who, apart from being Russia’s constant rival in bandy, are also good at football.

Not surprisingly, the Swedish cuisine attracted most interest of the students. The event’s organizers arranged a surprise and offered the residents of the student campus to treat themselves to a cup of hot coffee and national pastries that were more than appropriate on a frosty February evening.

Besides, to increase the efficiency of cross-cultural communications between students ofKazanand foreign visitors at Games time, theUniversiadeVillageresidents became familiar with Swedish traditions and memorized key Swedish phrases. The first one the students learned by heart was «välkommen att hälsa på oss», which means ‘welcome to our place’.

The meetings under the ‘Learn Cultures of Kazan 2013 Participating Nations’-Project will be held up till the very start of the 2013 Games and will help students to get acquainted with the cultures of all countries competing in the Universiade.
