TEHERAN – From 7 to 16 August, the 12th Women’s Sport-Cultural University Olympiad was hosted by the Shahid Beheshti University in Iran. More than 2,000 female students from 86 universities competed in 8 sports, i.e. Futsal, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Athletics, Swimming and Taekwondo.
This event is the biggest biennial university sport competition organized in the country.
The Opening Ceremony of this sporting event started with the speech of Dr. Reza Faraji Dana, Minister of Science, Research and Technology. Also, the Minister of Sport and Youth, Dr. Mahmoud Goudarzi, Vice-Minister of Science, Research and Technology and President of Students Affairs Organization Dr. Mojtaba Seddighi attended this ceremony.
At the Medal Awarding Ceremony, cups and medals were presented by Dr. Masoume Ebtekar, Vice-President of Dr. Hassan Rohani (President of IRAN) and President of the Islamic Republic of IRAN Department of Environment; Dr. Mojataba Seddighi, Vice-Minister of Science, Research and Technology and President of the Students Affairs Organization.
In addition, the second part of this event will be held from 20 to 29 August for men in 9 sports, i.e. Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Athletics, Swimming and Wrestling (Free Style & Greco Roman).
