#WUAlmaty2017: Update Ice Hockey - Day 0

ALMATY – Yesterday, 29 January, the day of the Opening Ceremony, only one competition took place, i.e. the women’s ice hockey match between USA and Russia.

The Russian team opened the scoring via Shokina, hardly two minutes into the first period when taking advantage of a powerplay. Russia continued its coordinated play leading to more goals. Team USA managed to score early in the second period via Ash, but couldn't close the gap with Russia netting more goals which led them to their first victory. Final score: 1-7 (0-3; 1-3; 0-1).
