 SVK vs. GBR

ERZURUM Today, January 31st, the first game of the women’s competition was a North American clash between Canada and the USA. The girls from the ‘Frozen North’ had no difficulty with their southern neighbors and they easily beat them 9-0.

Team Slovakia also had no real problem with its opponent Great Britain. The Slovak team, which has 11 players on its roster who participated at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, waltzed over Team Albion putting an 8-0 on the scoreboard.

Finland had no problem keeping host Turkey away from the Suomi goal. The Turkish team was chanceless against the medal contender and was massacred with a 32-0 on the scoreboard.

A big turn-up from the citizens of Erzurum to boost their hockey team

The men’s competition today started with a thriller between Japan and Czech Republic. After a scoreless first period it was Team Czech that opened the score early in the second period via Nedrda. Team Nippon tried to equalize the score but in vain. Then in the third period Terao brought relief by scoring the equalizer. Regular playing time ended and the game went in overtime. Another thriller-moment as the sudden death goal stayed away so the game had to be decided with penalty shots, which was decided in favor of Team Japan. Not only big cheers by the Japanese in the ice arena, but also in the Village restaurant where some of the Japanese athletes were watching the game on the giant TV screen.

TUR vs. RUS

The courageous Turks faced-off against the mighty Russians and were massacred with a 26-0. MVP of the game was without doubt Turkish goalie Erol Kahraman who prevented from a worser fait.
