FISU EC Meets in Lausanne – Day 2

 The EC in session for the 2nd day

 

 

 

LAUSANNEMay 27th, day 2 of the EC meeting in Lausanne, the session started with the Report from the Press Committee. CIP Chair Leonz Eder gave an update of the CIP presence at the 74th AIPS Congress while Vice-Chair Verena Burk explained the preparations of the first FISU Young sports Journalists Seminar which will take place at the 2011 SU in Shenzhen.

Next the FISU board reviewed the program for the upcoming General Assembly in Shenzhen, prior to the Summer Universiade where a new board will be elected for the period 2011-2015.                     

After the lunch break, the Educational Department presented its report. The floor was given to the CESU Committee Chair who reported on the successful Sport Science Conference in Erzurum with 12 keynote speakers and more than 150 oral presentations. Mr. Gallien also gave an update on the 2011 FISU Conference Shenzhen, the 2012 FISU Forum in Chinese Taipei, the FISU International Education Center in Kazan and the 2013 Rector’s Forum in Umea, Sweden.

Then the floor was given to Ms. Lee and Mr. Chen, delegates of the Organizing Committee of the 2012 FISU Forum who gave a detailed progress report of the Forum preparations. The EC also approved the general theme of the Forum, i.e. ‘University Sport, a Platform for Sustainability’.

Stefan Bergh, FISU Vice-President and Peter Hassmén, Professor of Umea University presented the candidature for the 2013 Rectors’ Forum in Umea, Sweden. That year, the Swedish NUSF will celebrate its centennial anniversary. This event will be commemorated by a number of activities during the entire year, the Rector’s Forum one of them. The bid is a joint effort from the Swedish NUSF, the University of Umea and the city of Umea. The theme proposed for this forum is ‘University and Community Growth through University Sport’. The EC approved of the candidature and attributed the Forum to Umea.

Oleg Matytsin gave more detailed information about the FISU International Education Center in Kazan. The basic mission of the center is assistance to the development of the international student’s sports movement; maintenance of a long-term steady heritage of the Universiades; promotion of humanistic values of sports; granting of a wide spectrum of exclusive educational practice focussed services; using global innovations in spheres of sports, management, science and education, a professional training for the Russian and world student’s sports.

The center will develop training researches, education and teaching activities, consulting, related to the world of university sport, empowering its students, its staff and its partners, as well as the international sports community at large.

Adam Roczek, Acting Chair of the CRS presented its report on eventual changes in the sport technical regulations of the FISU sport events.

 

The delegates of the 2013 WU OC

 

The day ended with the progress report of the 2013 Winter Universiade in Maribor (SLO) followed. CTI WU Roger Roth and WU Director Milan Augustin gave an update, while representatives of the Maribor OC presented their progress report. The WU project in Maribor is in the final phase of consolidation. Co-founding contracts have been agreed on and signed with all parties in the project. Municipalities have started with intensive negotiations for acquiring of necessary documents for the realisation of the infrastructure project, which will be completed in the summer of 2012. All participating members of the project are fully supporting it; only finalisation of open cases needs to be done and final agreements with all members of the project. The structure of the project is operating normally and the expert services from the Municipality of Maribor, the Project unit and the representatives of the Slovenian Government are fully integrated in it. The investment projects have been agreed upon, which has created a basis for a normal operation in the following year that is of crucial importance before the Universiade starts.
