A successful FISU-FASU-NUSF seminar was held recently, with the participation of member federations from FASU (Fédération Africaine du Sport Universitaire). The seminar was held in hybrid format, with representatives from 14 African countries being physically present in addition to the online participants.

With a theme of ‘Crafting strategy in the face of uncertainty’, the 2-day seminar focused on the university sports landscape in the post-COVID scenario.

In attendance were FISU First Vice President Leonz Eder, FISU Vice President and Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) President Peninnah Kabenge and FASU Vice President Life Chemhere.

Donald Rukare, Chairman of Uganda’s National Council of Sports and Secretary General of the Uganda Olympic Committee, chief guest at the seminar, put forth several recommendations for the post-COVID sports world.

“We must put in place a sport fund and entities like FASU should have in place policies for situations like the one we are currently faced with,” he said. “I also urge all members to respect Article 24 of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including physical activity. Of course, standard prevailing procedures must be followed while striving to remain active.”
