EUSA Executive Committee meets in Zagreb

ZAGREB The first Executive Committee meeting of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in the year 2013 took place in Zagreb, Croatia on January 25 and 26. EUSA Executive members were first welcomed by the team from Croatian Academic Sports Federation (CASF), led by its President Mr Zrinko Custonja. EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek thanked the hosts on behalf of the Executive Committee for the invitation and for arranging the meeting and presented some symbolic gifts to CASF representatives.

EUSA representatives and hosts were also received by the authorities at the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports; Universities and also the City of Zagreb. The meetings with the highest representatives were also used to discuss the importance of university sport on local, national and international level. The receptions were also accompanied by a press conference.

The meeting on Friday was held in the City Assembly main meeting room. EUSA President Mr Roczek opened the meeting with a welcome and by highlighting the main agenda points and gave an overview of activities from the last EC meeting. EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik presented the overall Office report for the past period in more details, while the Treasurer Mr Olaf Tabor gave the financial report, including the annual budget of the past year and provisional budget for 2013.

Mr Patrik Perosa, EUSA Sports Manager presented the progress reports of the 2013 European Universities Championships and presented the bids for the 2015 Championships. After the presentations and discussions, voting took place and the EUSA Executive Committee attributed the most of the events for 2015, while the rest will be attributed at the next meeting. The awarding of the championships concluded the first day’s meeting and on the following day the meeting was held at the Esplanade Hotel.

The Saturday part of the meeting started with the report of the supervision commission up the next EUSA Games, chaired by Mr Kemal Tamer and followed by the report by the Organisers of the 2nd European Universities Games, to be held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 2014. After the EUSA Games 2014 report, the Executive Committee members got acquainted with the plans and report of the upcoming 14th EUSA General Assembly and Conference, to be held in Funchal, Madeira between March 14 and 17, 2013.

Part of the meeting dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the proposals of the modifications to the EUSA Statutes, to be voted upon by the General Assembly. The Executive Committee also made some other proposals, to be presented to the Assembly. Ms Isabel Collischonn, Student Commission Chair presented the report and plans of the Student Commission. During the meeting, also EUSA Patronage for 2013 events was awarded.

The participants were also able to enjoy the social program, including the guided city tours, sports events and tasting the local culinary specialties. EUSA Executive members will meet next before the General Assembly in Madeira, Portugal on March 15, 2013.
