A whole month of IDUS activities in FISU America

FISU 21 October 2020

FISU AMerica IDUSThroughout an entire month, FISU America carried out activities to celebrate the International Day of University Sport (IDUS). From 14 September to 14 October, many educational, sporting and promotional events took place online, putting together a great celebration of #LetsIDUS.

The activities were aimed at all members of the university sports community – students, athletes, sports officials and others – representing the National University Sports Federations (NUSFs) of the American continents. The first few events took place from the 14-18 September: a series of webinars on various topics and with different speakers. eSports lovers also joined the celebration and were able to participate in a festival with three modalities: FIFA 20, Clash Royale and Free Fire.

Free Fire was the last modality of the event, starting on 21 September 21, and ending in mid-October. The final was contested between the Blackbulls teams from Brazil and Suicid Squad from Peru. After many exciting matches, the Peruvian team took the advantage and the title of ‘champion’. Brazil finished in second place, and The Invencibles team from Honduras, completed the podium in third place.

Participating in the FISU America initiative, each NUSF also competed for the ‘most active federation on the continent’ award. Each Federation received points for the participation of its members in various events – that is, the more people represented a country, the more points the Federation accumulated. The grand champion NUSF was to receive a sum of money to use in educational or sporting projects, through donation to a local institution affected by the pandemic. After a month of events and many accumulated points, CBDU Brazil, became the ‘Most Active Federation’ of the continent!

Alim Maluf Neto, president of the FISU America says: “The celebration of IDUS in 2020 was remarkable throughout the American continent. More than 4,000 participants from 22 national federations signed up for the 12 actions proposed by our continental federation to activate and celebrate the International Day of University Sport. I highlight our webinars on relevant topics, which promoted the exchange of experiences between our countries, and we showed once again the unity and strength of the Americas in favour of university sports ”.
