2010 WUC Bridge Update

From August 2nd to 9th, 2010, Kaoshiung, Chinese Taipei will host the 2010 World University Bridge Championship. 2010 will be a busy year for the Chinese Taipei University Sport Federation as the FISU Member Association will stage two other WUC as well, i.e. badminton (Taipei City) and weightlifting (Taichung). Hereafter you will find an update regarding the preparations of the WUC Bridge.

 

ATHLETES’ VILLAGE

Accommodation

National Sun Yat-Sen University dormitories will be used to provide housing for athletes and team officials of the 2010 World University Bridge Championship. Rooms will be assigned to different delegations taking into consideration their nationalities, religion, and cultural background. Each room in the dormitory will have two beds and provide pillow, blanket, mattress, soap, shampoo, toiletry, and waste basket. Housekeeping staff will clean each room everyday and washing machines and dryers will be provided to participants to wash their clothes. A first-aid and medical staff will be on-hand 24 hours a day in the Athletes’ Village to take care of any emergency or need for medical care.

Dining

The Cafeteria, which can seat approximately 500 students, will be open for the following meals:

Breakfast: 06:30-08:00

Lunch: 11:30-13:30

Dinner: 18:30-20:30

Meal periods can be flexible according to the competition schedule. A Public Health division will be set up to make sure food and kitchen environment passes the best cleanliness standard to prevent any sickness arising from contaminated food or food prepared improperly. A variety of food selection will be offered including Chinese, Japanese and Western style. Competitors and team officials can also enjoy beverage and unlimited drinking water supplied in the Village.

Facilities

The Athletes’ Village will have the following services:

– Computers with access to the internet

– Fitness room for exercising

– Convenience Store for drinks, food, everyday utility stuff

– Information Desk

– Transportation Desk (for trips to the airport, sightsee places, and Kaohsiung City)

– Café for coffee, drink, or tea

Reception

There will be a reception staff at major points in the Athletes’ Village, such as the dining room, transportation desk, information desk, etc., to answer any question and help solve any problem that participants may have.

GENERAL ORGANIZATION

Accommodation VIPs

Splendor Hotel is proposed to accommodate FISU VIPs, commission members, and guests. Splendor Hotel is a five-star hotel in Kaohsiung. Splendor Hotel is approximately 20 minutes of drive from National Sun Yat-Sen University.

Accommodation Judges

Judges will be accommodated at the Hotel Kingdom. Hotel Kingdom is approximately 20 minutes of drive from National Sun Yat-Sen University.

Accreditation

Accreditation centers will be set up in the lobby of the Athletes’ Village for participants, at the media center on the campus of National Sun Yat-Sen University for members of the press, and at Splendor Hotel for VIPs, commission members, and guests.

Transportation

Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) is the designated port of entry. A reception team will be set up at the airport to greet all delegations and arrange for transportation to the Athletes’ Village. Bus services will be provided to transport participants between airport and National Sun Yat-Sen University. Since the competition venue is on campus, transportation won’t be needed for the competition venue. Judges will be transported between their hotel and National Sun Yat-Sen University by shuttle van services. A minivan will be used to provide transportation for the VIPs, commission members, and guests.

Medical Assistance

Sufficient medical assistance will be provided and can be assured for the Championship. Besides nearby hospitals available for immediate treatment for any injuries, first aid, ambulance and doctors will be kept ready and close by the range during the Championship.

First-aid medical staff will be on-hand in the Athletes’ Village 24 hours a day.

Cultural Activity

Kaohsiung is a place filled with cultural flair and historical nostalgia. The Kaohsiung City Government will arrange various cultural programs, which will include trips to popular tourist sites, for all interested participants.
