Bridge 25 November 2009

Today, almost 100 students and officials from China, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Indonesia got together on this beautiful island in the South Pacific: Bali, Indonesia, for the 1st Asian University Bridge Championship.

Most of teams arrived this morning. After the Accreditation, they strived to get rid of the attraction of the beautiful scenery here and got ready for the Opening Ceremony.

At 7: 30 pm, the Opening Ceremony of the 1st Asian University Bridge Championship went along in a smooth and merry atmosphere. The merriness was mainly due to the attractive dances performed by Students of The Institute Seni Indonesia, Denpasar Bali, like Selat Segara Dance which expressed the happy feeling of solidarity, the Rejang, the Pendet Dances and the Legong. As we know, it was the first time for most participants to be here. Therefore, they really enjoyed the classical and traditional dances and musical performance.

After the dance, the participating teams marched in. And then they listened carefully to the speech from Mr. Rustam Effendy, Chairman of The Organizing Committee, the speech from Mr. See Tow Cheng Fave, AUSF Treasurer representing the President of AUSF, and the speech from Mr. James Tangkudung representing the minister of Youth and Sport. Finally Mr. Harris Iskandar, representing The Minister of National Education, officially declared open the 1st Asian University Bridge Championship.

During the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Rustam Effendy and Mr. James Tankudung respectively received the special gift from AUSF, which weighs a little but means a lot. It resembled the great thanks from all the university students in Asia to the Organizing Committee.

After the Opening Ceremony, the Organizing Committee hosted a welcome banquet for all participants. Here and there, everybody was immersed in a joyful atmosphere.
