Gianluca Mattioli, 1967-2017
LAUSANNE – It is with great sadness that FISU learned of the news that Gianluca Mattioli, the Italian FIBA International Referee for 3×3 Basketball, passed away earlier this week.
Professionally, Gianluca was very much involved with Basketball. This included being the Chief of Referees at the FISU World University 3×3 Basketball League and a much-loved and highly-valued member of the FIBA team. Before FIBA, Gianluca was a Euroleague referee. At FISU, Gianluca was involved since the inaugural FISU 3×3 Basketball event in 2015.
Gianluca will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him during his time on on and off the 3×3 Basketball courts, both with FIBA and FISU. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.
