3x3 Basketball 26 November 2018

For four days, student-ballers from all around the world brought the fire to the half-court in Xiamen at the 3×3 FISU World University League – 2018 Finals. Let’s relive the best moments in our ultimate #UniHoops countdown!

XIAMEN – We witnessed four days of fierce competition, fair play, epic moments and new friendships. Many of them would be worth mentioning in this ranking, but as this is a ranking we’re going with the five moments that got stuck in our heads.

5) Young, younger, Mon-Altius Physical Education Institute. From the Youth Olympics to the World University League. The titleholding university (MGL) sent the youngest student-ballers to Xiamen but being the rookies didn’t prevent them from dropping some serious dimes on the court.

4) Hurry up, it’s dinner time! The 3×3 players from Huaqiao University (CHN) were in a hurry when they played National University of La Matanza (ARG) during the pool phase evening session on day 2. It took them 4 minutes and 53 seconds to get to 22 points and finish off the game. On this year’s FIBA 3×3 World Tour this would have been the third fastest game. In #UniHoops history, it’s the fastest game of all times.

3) Throwing, assisting, dribbling. Victoria Kondus did it all. And succeeded. The student from Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (UKR) put together a highlight tape that basically is a case study of her undefendable drive to the basket (among other things).

2) Taking a shot. That’s literally what Shayan Pourkaveh from Payame Noor University (IRI) did when he attempted this throw. Sure, why not? We’d give him 7.5 points for the creativity in throwing style and 6.5 for the landing. Makes 21 points in total and a win – because this one sure looked like a game winner.

1) “This is absolutely bananas in here!” There is a lot of cheering going on when the host university’s team goes for the win in front a crazy home crowd. Add the cracking voice of commentator Ben Ibrahim to the mix while Huaqiao University (CHN) is sinking the final shots and there you go: goosebumps.
