From Asia to the world stage once again
KINMEN, Chinese Taipei – Mongolia’s Mon-Altius Physical Education Institute and Taipei’s Chinese Culture University (CCU) won the men’s and women’s events at the 5th Asian University 3×3 Basketball Championship. With this win, these two universities once again get to represent Asia at the FISU University World Cup – 3×3 that takes place in Xiamen, later this year. They will be joined by both men’s and women’s runners up, Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU) from Taipei and the Islamic Azad University (IAU) from Iran.
Women’s Final: Three-peat for CCU
The FISU University World Cup – 3×3 champions of 2017, the Chinese Culture University achieved a three-peat at the AUC level, having already won in 2017 and 2018 before once again topping the draw in 2019.
“The goal of coming to Kinmen was to win the title,” said coach Hui-yun Cheng. “I am very happy our players achieved the goals we set.”
Kimiya Yazdian Tehrani from the Iranian univeristy IAU said, “Although we didn’t win this championship, we are still satisfied with our result. We will represent Asia at the University World Cup – 3×3 finals in Xiamen!”
Men’s Final: Mon-Altius win title for the first time
Team Mon-Altius from Mongolia have made it to the Finals in Xiamen before, but finally sealed their first ever victory in the Asian qualifying tournament.
In the final against FJCU, the Mon-Altius displayed more strength and a stronger attack. Mon-Altius extensively used one-on-one defense to wear down their opponents and won the match 20-12.
“Although our seniors had already won the FISU University World Cup in 2017, we are still eager to win the crown to prove ourselves,” said baller Gan-Erdene Gantsolmon excitedly.
FJCU’S Yang Liu said, “We are more familiar with 3×3 rhythms than before. We now expect to advance to world-class competition and higher-level opponents in Xiamen.”

2nd: Islamic Azad University (IAU), IRI
3rd: University of Taipei (UT), TPE
Men:
1st: Mon-Altius Physical Education Institute, MGL
2nd: Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU) , TPE
3rd: Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), INA
